Community Engagement
Community engagement involves collaborating with community members, organizations, and other stakeholders in decision-making, planning, and implementing projects and initiatives that affect their lives and well-being.
Community engagement is a participatory approach to addressing social issues and challenges, and it involves building and sustaining relationships, promoting dialogue, and encouraging active participation from community members.
Effective community engagement can lead to a better understanding of community needs, improved decision-making, increased trust and collaboration among stakeholders, and more sustainable and successful community outcomes.
Health Promotion
Since 2019, we have engaged communities in more than six states to collaborate and raise awareness of health disparities. Our team has worked with hospitals, community leaders, and community organizations to build awareness. We have reached more than 1.5 million people through face-to-face and digital engagement efforts in the United States, bringing awareness to topics such as the following:
Covid-19
Sickle Cell Disease
Depression
Green Spaces
We are currently working with local community members in Ohio to develop approaches that increase access to green space. This is important because green spaces, such as parks, gardens, and forests, are essential for public health. There are several reasons why green spaces are important for our health and well-being:
Physical activity: green spaces provide opportunities for physical activity, such as walking, jogging, and cycling. Regular physical activity can help prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
Mental health: Spending time in green spaces has been shown to improve mental health and reduce stress. It can also improve mood, increase self-esteem, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Air quality: green spaces help improve air quality by filtering pollutants from the air and producing oxygen.
Social connections: green spaces provide opportunities for social interactions and community building. They can also help reduce social isolation and loneliness.
Access to healthy food: green spaces can provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables through community gardens and farmers' markets.
Overall, green spaces are essential to promoting physical, mental, and social well-being.
